Race Day Medical Emergency

If you experience a medical emergency during the race, stop immediately and alert the nearest marshal or volunteer. Medical stations are located every 5km along the course.

Pre-Race Preparation

Medical Check-up

We strongly recommend all participants undergo a medical check-up before the race, especially if:

  • You are over 40 years old
  • You have any existing medical conditions
  • You have not exercised regularly in the past 6 months
  • You have a family history of heart disease

Training

Ensure you have adequately trained for your chosen distance:

  • Full Marathon: 16-20 weeks of training
  • Half Marathon: 10-12 weeks of training
  • 10K: 8-10 weeks of training
  • 5K Fun Run: 4-6 weeks of training

Medical Conditions

Please declare any medical conditions on your registration form. Conditions that require special attention include:

Heart conditions
Asthma
Diabetes
Severe allergies
Epilepsy
Recent injuries

Medical ID: We recommend wearing a medical ID bracelet or carrying information about any conditions, allergies, and emergency contacts.

Hydration & Nutrition

Before the Race

  • Hydrate well in the days leading up to the race
  • Eat a carbohydrate-rich meal the night before
  • Have a light breakfast 2-3 hours before start
  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine 24 hours before

During the Race

  • Drink at every aid station (every 2.5km)
  • Don't wait until you feel thirsty
  • Alternate between water and electrolytes
  • Take energy gels every 45-60 minutes

After the Race

  • Rehydrate with water and electrolytes
  • Eat within 30 minutes of finishing
  • Continue hydrating throughout the day
  • Rest and allow your body to recover

Heat Management

Vientiane's tropical climate requires special attention to heat management:

Wear Light Clothing

Choose light-colored, breathable, moisture-wicking fabrics

Protect Your Head

Wear a cap or visor to shield from direct sun

Use Sunscreen

Apply water-resistant SPF 30+ before the race

Cool Down

Use water sponges available at aid stations

Warning Signs - Stop Immediately If:

Chest pain or pressure
Severe dizziness or fainting
Difficulty breathing
Confusion or disorientation
Feeling unusually hot or cold
Extreme fatigue or weakness
Nausea or vomiting
Muscle cramps that won't stop
